The EcoBrush Satyagraha is a unique initiative by APMT Foundation that blends environmental awareness with cultural revival. Inspired by Gandhian values and India’s ancient traditions, this campaign encourages the use of natural neem tooth-sticks (datun) instead of plastic toothbrushes. Our mission is to reintroduce a simple, affordable, and eco-friendly oral care practice that not only improves health but also respects nature.

The Neem tree has been revered for its antibacterial and healing properties for centuries. Using its twigs as a toothbrush is not only sustainable but also incredibly beneficial for oral hygiene. Through this campaign, APMT Foundation aims to create a ripple effect — one that inspires individuals to move away from harmful plastic products and return to sustainable, holistic living.

Despite the effectiveness and eco-friendliness of neem tooth-sticks, several challenges make it difficult for this practice to thrive in modern society:

Plastic Dependency: The widespread use of plastic toothbrushes has led to enormous environmental degradation. Over a billion toothbrushes are thrown away each year, many ending up in oceans or landfills.
Cultural Shift: Urbanization and globalization have distanced people from traditional practices. The use of neem sticks is often seen as outdated or unhygienic without understanding their actual benefits.
Lack of Availability: In many cities and even some rural areas, neem twigs are not readily available, making it hard for people to switch.
Unawareness of Benefits: Many are unaware that neem twigs are rich in natural antiseptics and antifungal agents, offering better oral health than chemical-based toothbrushes and toothpaste.

Free Distribution Drives: We organize community outreach programs where we distribute neem tooth-sticks for free or at a nominal cost, especially in schools, villages, and urban slums.

Educational Workshops: We conduct informative sessions on the health benefits of neem sticks, demonstrating their proper usage, and debunking myths around them.

Promoting Tree Plantation: In association with local communities and volunteers, we promote the plantation of neem trees, ensuring a future supply while contributing to a greener environment.

Empowering Rural Entrepreneurs: We collaborate with farmers and self-help groups to create a supply chain that supports both livelihoods and sustainability. This way, they can earn by harvesting, packaging, and distributing neem sticks.
